      • Frequently Asked Questions

What are the differences between coaching, therapy, and consulting?

Coaching is a collaborative, forward-looking, goal oriented process. A coach asks questions, offers observations, and helps you develop your own awareness, strategies, and actions. A coach does not diagnose mental health conditions or prescribe a fixed solution for your life.

Therapy is a clinical service provided by a licensed mental health professional. It may address mental health symptoms, trauma, significant emotional distress, and other concerns that require clinical assessment or treatment. If you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition, thoughts of self-harm, or a crisis, please prioritize support from a licensed mental health professional or crisis service.

Consulting centers on expert advice. A consultant analyzes a situation and recommends solutions based on their expertise. In coaching, you remain the expert on your own life, and the coach helps you arrive at your own insights, decisions, and next steps.

If your needs fall outside the scope of coaching, ANKELAB will discuss this with you and may recommend another qualified professional or provide referral options when possible.

        Are coaching sessions confidential?

Yes, with clearly defined exceptions. Information shared during coaching is treated as confidential. Sessions are not audio- or video-recorded without your prior written consent, and ANKELAB does not keep transcripts or detailed session notes. Basic administrative records, such as contact information, agreements, scheduling, and payment records, may be retained.

Coaching confidentiality may not carry the same legal privilege as communications with a licensed psychotherapist. ANKELAB may disclose information with your authorization, as required by applicable law or legal process, or when reasonably necessary to respond to an imminent or likely risk of serious harm to you or someone else. These boundaries will be explained in the coaching agreement before coaching begins.

Coaching is not mental health treatment or an emergency service. If you need mental health assessment or treatment, are experiencing thoughts of self-harm, or are in crisis, please contact a licensed mental health professional or crisis service. In the United States, you may call or text 988 for immediate crisis support. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or the appropriate local emergency service.

What is ANKELAB’s cancellation and rescheduling policy?

        • You may cancel or reschedule a session at no charge by providing at least 24 hours’ notice.
        • Cancellations or rescheduling requests made less than 24 hours before the scheduled session will incur a fee equal to 50% of the applicable session rate.
        • If you do not attend a scheduled session and provide no advance notice, you will be charged 100% of the applicable session rate.
        • If you arrive late, the session will still end at the originally scheduled time, and the full applicable session rate will apply.
        • If a session is delayed, missed, shortened, or rescheduled due to circumstances attributable to ANKELAB, we will make an appropriate adjustment based on the circumstances. This may include making up the affected session time, reducing or waiving the applicable fee, or issuing a full or partial refund, as appropriate.

The same policy applies to all ANKELAB coaching options, including the Coaching Access Program. Exceptions for emergencies or other exceptional circumstances may be considered case by case.

        Is coaching covered by insurance?

ANKELAB does not bill or submit claims to health insurance. Because coaching is not medical or mental health treatment, clients should not assume it is covered; contact your insurance provider directly to ask whether your plan offers reimbursement for coaching or wellness services.

Does ANKELAB work with clients under 18?

ANKELAB currently provides coaching only to adults aged 18 and older. Parents and legal guardians are welcome to use ANKELAB’s educational resources with younger people under their supervision.

        Does ANKELAB offer reduced-fee coaching?

Yes. Through the ANKELAB Coaching Access Program, a limited number of reduced-fee coaching opportunities are available each month. Availability, rates, and the number of sessions offered may vary. Contact us to learn about current options.

What support is available between coaching sessions?

Communication outside scheduled coaching sessions is generally limited to scheduling, invoicing, payment, and other administrative matters.

Ongoing coaching, feedback on exercises or assignments, and real-time or on-demand support are not provided through email, messaging, or other communication channels outside scheduled sessions.

However, for added flexibility, current coaching clients may also schedule a 20-minute additional coaching session to discuss a question or topic between regular sessions. This additional session will be billed at the applicable rate listed in your service details.
